Atomic RT 86

The RT 86 is an expression of the next technological leap beyond Atomic’s dual-core beta construction that has served us so well for the last several years. The new Nomad technology construction embodies a series of cutaways in the core and top-sheet at the forebody and tail of the ski. Each of these cutaways is referred to as a Torsion Flex Control (TFC), and they allow for a micro tuning of a ski’s longitudinal flex and torsional rigidity—relatively independent of each other. The result is a ski with a very smooth and even longitudinal flex that is completely devoid of any hinge points, being further blessed with superior torsional rigidity, even when combined with a smoother, softer longitudinal flex. As a result of the new TFC technology, the Atomic RT 86 is much more responsive than traditionally constructed skis with the same side-cut dimensions, enjoying the advantage of superior torsional rigidity for better edge grip on ice, and a smooth longitudinal flex that provides fantastic floatation in powder—versatility personified. An additional and very important benefit of TFC Construction is how light it makes the RT 86, being, on average, about 20% lighter than other skis with the same side-cut dimensions. Atomic Janak

The Janak is essentially a second-generation version of the venerable Tele Daddy, arguably the best, most versatile “fat” Tele ski ever made. Augmenting the Beta-core functionality of it’s predecessor, a new high-tech Magnesium-infused top-sheet increases dampening and torsional stiffness, creating a smoother, more even flexing ski than possible with the polymer “caps” used by other manufacturers.  In addition to offering even more edge-control on harder show, the new magnesium-infused top-sheet subtracts ounces to lighten the load on those “must do” up-and-down backcountry forays. The result is a very wide ski that delivers maximum floatation in bottomless powder, while still retaining much of the versatility of an all-mountain ski that can be moved aggressively over a wide range of snow conditions that fall short of glare ice. We also expect the Janak to be every bit as popular—if not more so-- with A.T. skiers as its ”Daddy” was.  Profile: 125-99-117 mm.

Atomic RT 80

The RT 80 is built around Atomic’s revolutionary Nomad technology (See RT 86 above), and has all the resulting benefits thereof: more responsive turning with less effort, superior torsional rigidity for better edge grip on ice, a smooth longitudinal flex for excellent floatation in powder, and about 20% less weight than other traditionally constructed skis with comparable side-cut dimensions. The RT 80 is versatility incarnate, and is even a few ounces lighter than it’s RT 86 sibling. Profile: 121/80/107

Atomic Kailas

Sharing the same Beta-core construction, and lightweight magnesium infused cap with it’s other high-end Atomic stable-mates, and with an 88-mm. waist measurement that falls between the “Fat Daddy” Janak and the “Super Gee” Kongur, the Kailas delivers the best of both skis, and more. The Kailas matches the 125-mm. floatation of the Janak shovel-width, and flexes rounder, and a bit softer than the Janak (or Kongur) for additional powder friendliness. As with the Kongur, the Kailas has the torsional-rigidity and structural integrity to be comfortable at near lift-off speeds, but it’s rounder flex, and substantial side-cut allow the Kailas to effect shorter radius fall-line turns than either the Kongur or Janak skis. What we have here is an extremely versatile all-mountain ski that’s wide enough to excel in powder, yet not so ultra wide in the waist to deter edge-to-edge quickness on hard-pack. And, the Kailas is a chunk lighter then either of the other two Atomic skis, just in case you go both ways on a hill. Profile: 125-88-109 (Note: the shovel width listed is for the widest part f the shovel, while the contact width of the skis is 120-mm.).

Atomic Kongur

The Kongur is a “new tech” update to Atomic’s “star-status” T.M.X high-performance ski. Blessed with a Beta-core and Atomic’s unique magnesium-infused top-sheet, the Kongur is lighter, even more stable at excessive speed than it’s predecessor, and able to “take it to the limits” better than any other Tele ski available. If you need an all-mountain ski for Gs / Super G radius turns that can stay on top of a full range of snow conditions, the Kongur is an unbeatable choice. Profile: 117-84-109 mm.

Atomic Tacora

Born with a Beta-core, magnesium-infused top-sheet, and a 113-80-104 profile, the Tacora is an ideal combination of lightweight performance, and ski anywhere / everywhere versatility. Wide enough for good floatation, and trim enough at he waist to rip on hard-pack, the Tele specific flex of the Tacora is equally at home on just about any snow that can cover the rocks. If you need one ski to do everything, everywhere, this is your guy.  Profile: 113-80-104 mm.

Atomic Pumori

With redesigned flex-pattern, and side-cut, the new Pumori is a very universal all mountain ski for women. With a flex-pattern that takes into account biomechanics that are specific to women for easier turning, the Pumori still remains stable at speed, being comfortable with fall-line or with big radius turns. The 115-mm. shovel is wide enough for effective floatation in powder, while the 80-mm. waist and exceptional torsional rigidity provide excellent grip on hard-pack or ice.

Atomic Diran

The Diran is essentially a third (or is it forth?) generation update of Atomic’s venerable T.M.22, the longest running, most versatile Tele ski ever made by Atomic, or anyone else. Note: he Duran’s predecessor was not only our best selling Telemark ski, it was also the best selling A.T. ski at Norpine, and in Europe for several years running; we expect the Duran to amplify that tradition of doing everything extremely well for the maximum number of skiers. Profile: 106-72-97 mm.

Atomic Saipal

The Saipal is a second generation “new tech” up-date of Atomic’s female specific Femme Fatale Telemark ski. Augmenting the Beta-core functionality of it’s predecessor, a new high-tech Magnesium-infused top-sheet increases dampening and torsional stiffness, creating a smoother, more even flexing ski than possible with the polymer “caps” used by other manufacturers. In addition to offering even more edge-control on harder show, the new magnesium-infused top-sheet subtracts ounces for ease of style’n at the lifts, and to lighten the load on up-hill forays into the backcountry. Not just a softened or shortened men’s ski, the Saipal is a female specific ski that is the product of extensive biomechanical research undertaken at the University of Innsbruck; research that indicates the specific points in a ski’s flex-pattern that need to be adjusted for optimal performance for women skiers. The most sophisticated design ever created for a woman specific ski, the Saipal is a smooth, even flexing, wonderfully versatile ski that’s designed to excel on a wide spectrum of snow conditions, and to enhance the skiing of intermediate through expert female skiers. Profile: 106-72-97 mm.

Atomic MX:7

Designed to fulfill the need for a quality backcountry/mountain ski at a bargain price, the MX:7 is best suited for beginning and intermediate skiers and will prove more durable, and out-perform a lot of heavily advertised “cosmetic skis” that are a great deal more expensive. Telemark or Alpine Touring, the MX:7 is a great ski on which to learn and increase mountain touring and turning skills. Profile: 101-70-95

Karhu Guide

For some years there has been a need for a wide, stable waxless ski that could be used by climbers for approaches and descents , as well as Alpine Touring / Telemark skiers who while traveling over varied Winter terrain wanted to avoid being bogged down spending inordinate amounts of time fussing with adhesive skins. Enter the Swiss Army knife of backcountry skis, the Karhu Guide, a solid wood-core, single cambered, metal-edged ski with plenty of width for good floatation, and lots of side-cut for excellent turnability. Climbers will want to install the Silvretta 500 bindings on these guys, while the A.T. folks will be well served with the Silvretta Pure, and the Tele population will gravitate toward the
G-3 Targa, Rottefella Chili, or Voile 3-pin cable bindings. Light / moderate weight plastic boots are recommended. Profile: 109-78-95

Karhu 10th Mountain

The 10th Mountain is a waxless metal-edged touring ski that’s designed to turn effectively on moderate descents, and move efficiently on flat and rolling terrain. The deep side-cut of the ski intimates turns easily, while the substantial width promotes stability and floatation in soft, loose snow. The 10th Mountain has more positive camber than the Karhu Guide (see above), and, as a result, will allow
more effective “kick-and-glide” touring than the wider, flatter, more Alpine-cambered Guide ski.

Atomic Rainier

With a durable wood-core, torsionally rigid structural cap, wide 88-mm. shovel, 28-mm. of side-cut, and an efficient kick-and-glide waxless base, the Rainier has all the ingredients necessary to tour and turn equally well. And, the price isn’t crazy. The Garmont Excursion (see boot section) is recommended for optimum performance with the Rainier. Profile: 88-60-78

Atomic Selkirk

The Selkirk offers the best combination of off-track striding with downh8ll turning. It’s lightweight air-channel wood core, structural cap, and 18-mm. of side-cut promote stability and control on descents, while waxless base, lighter weight, and slightly narrower profile allow the Selkirk to kick-and-glide a bit more efficiently than it’s big brothers Chugach and Rainier. We recommend the Garmont Excursion (see boot section) for maximum downhill control with this ski, or if the primary use of the ski will be backcountry touring over moderate terrain, a Garmont Tour leather 3-pin boot or a sturdy BC Norm boot (call us) will be more than adequate, lighter, and will require less repair to the dent in your wallet. Profile: 78-60-70 mm.

Atomic Sierra

The Sierra is a waxless metal-edged touring ski that’s solidly part of the current touring revolution, providing good off-trail tourability and control at a reasonable price. The Sierra accepts a wide range of boots and bindings—NNN BC (Call us), 3-pin, 3-pin cable, etc.—and is generally the best choice for day-tours over moderate backcountry terrain through wide-ranging snow conditions.
